Gettysburg (movie)

Gettysburg is anAmerican filmdirected byRonald F. Maxwellreleased in1993. Based on a historical fact, the film traces thebattle of Gettysburgduring theCivil War intheUnited States. This film is an adaptation ofMichael Shaara’snovel, The Killer Angels published in1974,Pulitzer Prizefor a fiction novel in1975.

Synopsis

The film tells of a first day where John Buford will choose the venue for the upcoming battle as well as the first engagements between the two armies, the arrival of the reinforcements of General John F. Reynolds and the general withdrawal of the Unionist army on the Ridge Ridge Heights. The second day is that of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain , commander of the 20th Maine Infantry Regiment, who defends Little Round Top against the Southern assaults, including the 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment, and concludes with a bayonet charge that will make many southern prisoners.

Then the film follows James Longstreet , George Pickett and Lewis Addison Armistead for the events of the third day, including preparing for Pickett’s charge . During the march towards the northern lines, the Confederates are harassed by the enemy artillery and are finally massacred by the fire and the defenders northerners. Armistead and Garnett are killed and Kemper is severely injured while General Winfield S. Hancock is also hit defending the wall.
