"It's not safe out. People are shaving their crotches as we speak. There is pubic hair in the air. Everywhere!"
I think I must have such a warped, depraved mind. I thought this was fucking hilarious, but I love John Waters anyway so it was inevitable. Trashy and sick, just how I like my comedy!

A sex comedy that's not sexy at all. Mostly because I found Tracey Ullman difficult to look at most of the time, probably would have worked better if they had Selma Blair the main character or something in terms of that. Anyway, this film tries so hard to be quirky, trendy, and funny but it fails at all of those things. The film seems like it was quickly put together because there are times that just seem so convenient throughout like the neighbors seemingly taking turns showing up an talking randomly, not to mention it feels like they're on a set 24/7. There are a few mild laughs in this thing though; like Selma Blair throwing the remote at her moms head or Knoxville walking into the vagina-looking tree and the tree getting off on it.

Overall, this film sucks but it does have 2 or 3 laughs, and for a sex comedy don't expect sexy.

Cry-Baby
Starring: Johnny Depp, Amy Locane, Susan Tyrrell, Polly Bergen, Iggy Pop, Ricki Lake, Traci Lords, and Mink Stole.
Written and Directed by John Waters.
Rated PG-13 (for some sensuality, violence and language).
Running time approximately 1 hour 31 minutes.

Neuter-turned-hornball Ullman has a blast in strange Waters romp.

I have seen eight films by John Waters, including this one. None of them are great, but none of them are horrid either. Polyester and Pecker were his least successful with me, and I awarded both of those a 5/10. I like the guy is what I'm trying to say. He is a complete pervert, there's no denying that, but he's also a very funny, very eccentric guy and I enjoy (for the most part) his work. A Dirty Shame, a film about nothing in particular but including some funny dialogue and some shocking scenes, is somwhere between Polyester and Pecker for me. It's not like anything you've ever seen before, I can tell you that - in fact, it's one of the strangest films Ive ever seen. The always-reliable Mink Stone and the hilarious, gravel-voiced Suzanne Shepherd steal the show here. Chris Isaak should've sang...just one song. It would have been nice, seeing as Baby really did do a bad, bad thing. ** (out of ****) C

Cast: Tracey Ullman (Sylvia), Johnny Knoxville (Ray Ray Perkins), Selma Blair (Caprice Stickles)

Tracey Ullman plays a very strict, and uptight suburban housewife. This is a fairly average "spoof comedy" about Sylvia becomes a bit of a sex addict when she receives a concussion. Sylvia then discovers an "underground" group of sex addicts in Pinewood led by the infamous Ray Ray Perkins. The people in the little town of Pinewood go up against each other in the battle of carnal urges versus civility. Tracey Ullman is always a bit of a hoot in comedies. Look out for Selma Blair who plays Sylvia's "deviant" daughter Caprice a.k.a. Ursula Udders (a famous porn star).

I think this is John Waters' Best movie to date. The perfect mix of camp, trash and hollywood.
