A horrible pretentious film that lacks any originallity and suffers from an uneven tone. Tries to be an romantic epic, like Casablanca or Gone with the Wind but ends up looking like Crocodile Dundee. Saying that it does look spectacular in parts, not enough to save it from the weak characters, bad humour and incogruent script.

Australia is a light-toned energetic movie and quite amusing. Baz Luhrmann combines adventure with drama in a unique way, it's not flawless but it's interesting. While the first part of the movie nearly felt as an Indiana Jones movie to me, the second part is more dramatic. It is a shame everything is too predictable and, yes, even cliched.

This movie is waaaaay underrated; one wonders what the critics were looking for. It is excellent. It's also long; at about an hour and a half, you think it's about to end, it seems too soon but there's clearly not enough time to begin another chapter -- but it does. It ends up being a full 2 hours and 45 minutes long.

The DVD includes two deleted scenes. When you watch them, you realize they should NOT have been deleted! But the movie was just too long.

While I know this film was panned by many, I thought it to be a grand epic that portrayed Australia as a stunning vista, one where anything can and might happen.

The art direction was superb, the acting decent and the plot was interesting enough to keep me wanting more.

I give this one 3.5 stars or a hearty thumbs up (for those with patience).

A lovely, lovely movie! Drags out a bit too much, but is exciting, especially with these great actors!

Australia is Moulin Rouge of the outback. Starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, Australia is a confusing yet entertaining piece of motion picture. Australia has many dry parts and is extremely hard to follow, however the filming is excellent, actors substantial, and plot admirable.
