This movie is good, but it could've been better. This movie doesn't really feel like a sequel to Bambi, it feels more like a prequel. I say this because this movie takes place around the part of the first movie where Bambi was young and his mother was murdered, after this happens Bambi becomes raised by the great prince (who is Bambi's father. i don't understand why he hasn't told Bambi that he's his dad.) and the rest of the story writes itself from there.

Bambi gets developed quite a bit in this one, but he makes stupid mistakes at times, which costed this movie some points - this is 1 of the faults that this movie has. Despite the greatness of this movie, it has other fault such as Faline and Bambi not spending a lot of time together or making out - and they really should do this. Another fauly is that Bambi's father wanted him to move to another forest with his lover Mina - who is a friend of Bambi's mom. Anyway, the good thing is that in the end Bambi doesn't move away with Mina and stays at the forest where he currently lives. It's stupid and mean to make Bambi move to another forest, deers don't usually do this;they are usually happy with the forest that they currently live in. It's last fault is that it doesn't have a lot of humor in it, it needs more of it.

- Overall this movie is good, but it's not as good as the first movie. 8/10

Bambi II is a worthy successor to the original Bambi film and on it's own is fine enough to be a genuinely great, memorable film-something you rarely see now.

Despite the impressions the title would give, this is actually a MIDQUEL to the original Bambi, which takes place immediately after the infamous death scene of Bambi's mother in the original movie, but it covers the events of Bambi's before before we saw him as a grown up deer in the second half of the original Bambi. So essentially this film bridges the gap between the first and second half of the original film, and it solves my only problem with the original Bambi in that they immediately jumped ahead in time after the tragic death scene.

So the basic premise of Bambi II is that it shows Bambi's father, the Great Prince of the forest, taking him under his wing once the fawn is orphaned, and the story focuses on Bambi learning to grow up and live a life without his mother, and at the same time earn the respect of his father, who appears to be more concerned with being a prince than being a father.

While on paper the plot sounds unremarkable, but the key to remember here when judging whether to see a movie or not is to never mistake the message for the messenger. In movie, the plot is a tad cliche, but the film compensates with good writing, likable characters (even if the characters are more humanized here than they are in the original film) a decent sense of humor, and some genuinely heartwarming scenes. They even threw in a couple of surprisingly good and appropriate songs (not sung by the characters themselves, like the original, with the exception of one minor song which barely lasts 15 seconds in the film) This film is perfect for children, and it's also ideal for fans of the original film who are craving to see a little more story squeeze from the original.

But the film still maintains some of the originals serious nature (no pun intended) in a few key scenes, even if in general the film feels more tame than the original's darker tone and mood.

Animation wise the drawings are very well done, with some breathtaking backgrounds and lovable animal designs with the touch of realism the original movie gave to them. In the entire movie i could only spot one minor animation error on Bambi's head near the end-Disney was clearly not slacking off when they were making this midquel. And that means even more when compared to Disney's *ahem* not so great other direct to video sequels.

The musical score is also well done, complete with a few musical reprises from the original movie, and those original vocal songs which are in as well. The voice acting is superb, with the stars of the show being Alexander Gould (who voiced the titular fish of Finding Nemo) as Bambi and Patrick Stewart (of Star Trek "Captain Jean-Luc Picard" fame") as the Great Prince. The voices are completely appropriate, and the acting is pretty good.

So overall, despite the impressions other people have given, this film is a fine "new classic" that shouldn't be overlooked and i recommend any fan of the original Bambi give a look-you won't regret it.

I've seen the first movie just 2 years ago (I have never actually seen it in my childhood), and it was the most boring piece of shit-crap I have ever seen.

When I saw the commercial of this second movie, I got curious because it seemed like a movie with more ''action''.
Especially compared to Bambi itself, it was.

The first Bambi is all looks and animation, it was supposed to be an animated documentary. It's not a movie I want to see a second time.
"Bambi 2" is a movie with an actual plot, even though it's sad to see that all the children of the characters from the previous movie have no special looks whatsoever, and basicly look the same like how their dads did.
In the real animal world that might apply, but for my feeling it didn't give these children anything special.

It was nice to see a different deer walking through the woods; too bad he reminded us too much of our lovely black lion-friend called Kovu from "The Lion King 2".
Bambi junior was just young Simba with the female deer being his best friend Nala, who shuts up just as much as she did.

The songs weren't even slightly good, but that's alright, because the songs in the first Bambi were awful too.

With the old Bambi turned into an adult boring piece of office-fart (just like the grown up Simba in the Lion King 2), there was not exactly much to enjoy about him either.

But this movie gets an 8 for the Kovu-deer.

Sweet well meaning family film, obviously not a match for the original, but it is enjoyable. A fine family film, filled with adventure, nice touches of humor.

Bambi II is disappointing as the sequel of the great Bambi (1942) starting with the digitalization of the animation and following with a weak story and screenplay.

The only part that could make the film to get a 6 is the part when Bambi fights with the wild dogs and the chasing. Bumper and Flower are still funny, Bambi is tender and the characters don't lose their scent. The trouble is the bad and mostly monotone story. Unnecessary sequel, is incredible to see how Disney doesn't respect it's classic films.

Bambi II Review

RATING: 7/10
Rated: G
Starring: Patrick Stewart
Genre: Family/Animated

When you were a kid or if you are one right now, you will always remember the classic and beautiful Bambi. The second animated movie from Disney, this little movie became a huge hit and is still a classic today...
BUT THE BIG QUESTION IS, Will this new Direct-to-DVD offering live up to the original? The amazingly shocking answer is... YES
The story is heartwarming and touching, Bambi tries to live up and be a prince while his father, takes care of him during the winter. At first his father, takes Bambi as a neusance, but soon he finds that his love for Bambi is greater than anything imaginable.
The animation is truly superb, using the designs and backgrounds from the old movie and using the technology of today... the film looks truly beautiful.
The only complaint, is that the movie is much too short arriving at 62 minutes... and, the movie could've been a little more exciting.

Concensus: The BEST Direct-to-DVD Disney sequel Ever made, it is beautiful and heartwarming and great for the whole family to enjoy together!
