This certainly isn't the worst vampire film I've ever seen. The film is based on a Japanese anime film of the same name, but several changes have taken place. Like The Forbidden Kingdom, this is a very Americanised look at the martial arts genre, and that's most obvious for the inclusion of Allison Miller's casting as a plucky, (and more importantly American) army brat as a secondary lead.

The crucial part of this is that she's the audience's insight into the scary world on "the other side of the looking glass", as Colin Salmon's creepy schoolteacher character intones at an early point in the film. Yes, Colin Salmon is here, and bafflingly, so are Liam Cunningham and JJ Feild- both British actors who play American in this film and don't have an awful lot to do.

As you might have guessed, it isn't terribly innovative. Nothing new is brought to the vampire characters except the nifty martial arts. On the contrary, the film is actually derivative of films other than the one it was based on- a scene where a truck is chased by a winged demon is almost identical to the similar scene in Underworld: Evolution. And more distractingly, there is some terrible CGI.

Masses of special effects don't make films good as a rule, but when you see the unconvincing fountains of animated blood and sub-Harryhausen creature effects, it'll take you right out of the film. Not to mention that Saya never once has a single drop of blood on her person during a fight scene- a practical impossibility given how much of it is spraying about. Blood is an accurate title. The Last Vampire part, less so, given how many vampires Saya battles here.

Blood- The Last Vampire is one of a long line of vampire films that don't really do anything original with the trope, but it's not unwatchable. Enjoy the spiffy martial arts, if that's your thing, but it lacks charm and substance, not to mention how the entire plot grinds to a halt for a whole twenty minutes midway through for some unnecessary flashbacks. At best, it's disposable.

this mess is sheer GORE! I had to shut it off because the constant inncesant outporing of fake blood and repetive action scenes. The story was good and the attempted bonding to the main character and the 'protectee' was good-the upclose butchering of people incessantly and focusing on how body parts flew everywhere was a huge turn off and shut off for me. So is this a movie, no, it is a big gross action video gone horrible wrong!

Wow...I think people are being too hard on this film; I thought they did a great job - can't write much of a review, but it was a decent movie in it's own right - the fighting scenes were just amazing; the graphics were on-par with what I thought would be the 'color' version of 'Sin City' and so were the effects...

Not bad to watch ... if you have nothing else to do ... I'd rate it right along with Watchmen..

Nothing on the original anime film. A sloppy remake, with some scenes so ridiculous you can't help but to laugh out loud. Hollywood needs to know its limts, and stop trying to make everything american.

Awesome trailer but that's all it is. The movie sucks! (you see what I did there?)

A demon-hunting vampire named Saya works for a government agency set up to hunt and kill demons in Post-WWII Japan. When she is sent undercover in an American Military Base in Tokyo, she thinks that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to finally get revenge on Onigen, the evil leader of all vampires who killed her father. As she begins to destroy armies of vampires, she meets a girl named Sharon who is the daughter of the Base's General. Only then does Saya realise she has another power over Onigen and that is to connect with humans.

I watched this, thinking that it's going to be a very mediocre movie. I mean, I judged the trailer as the 'best bits' of the movie and I was right. This movie is nowhere near great at all. I can't really compare it to the series as I've never seen it but apparently, the series is better. This review is from the point of view of a person who has never really heard of Blood until I saw the movie trailer.

The movie, in my opinion, felt like there was no story in it and felt like things were just happening.

I thought that the acting in this was very wooden, it just wasn't great at all. The only actress I would say that played their character well was the actress who played Saya. I thought that she was quite good at times but then on other times, she looked like she was being forced to play this role. I thought the actress who played Onigen wasn't good at all, it was below mediocre and the actress who played Sharon was...not bad but not good either.

The special effects was quite bad. There were some good points where it was great but in other parts of the movie, it looked entirely fake. The demons looked unreal but the action scenes were very well done, it's just a shame that the special effects weren't the same.

If you are going to watch this movie, I must warn you that this isn't a movie to take seriously. Basically something to do when you have time to waste and you don't want to think for an hour and a half.

Score: 40%
Basically, this is something to rent and not to buy. You'll forget the movie as soon as it's finished.

To be fair I must say that I'm not familiar with the comic.

That said, I must also say that this was not at all what I look for in a movie called "The Last Vampire". A few very cool story elements just couldn't save yet another hypocritical gorefest that puts the so-called "good guys" on the same moral standing as the bad guys.

I thought this movie was going to be at least half decent, but I was wrong. This movie had so much potential to be better, but most of the acting sucked and there was just way too much CGI blood. Also, some of the special effects(besides the CGI blood) was amateur. You might want to stick with the anime version.
