Catch Me If You Can is a film which is based on the true life story of Frank Abignale Jr (Leonardo DiCaprio), who before his 19th Birthday succesfully conned millions of dollars by posing as a Pilot,a Doctor, and an attorney pursued everywhere he goes by FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks). The story is given a quirky and fun crime caper style treatment by Director Steven Spielberg.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks both give great performances in this tale. DiCaprio exudes charisma as Abignale Jr and has real screen presence. Hanks is also pitch perfect, settling himself into a quieter role role than usual but doing it with style and humor. Christopher Walken is also excellent as Abignale senior, giving a fine performance as a man trying to keep his family happy despite the fact that they don't have very much money. The rest of the cast that includes Amy Adams and Martin Sheen also acquit themselves well to the quite excellent material.

Spielberg directs with a flashy style and gives the picture a fun, fast and very colourful feel yet also manages to sensitively convey some of the more serious aspects of the production like his parents divorce and Brenda's (Amy Adams' abortion). Jeff Nathanson's script also allows all the characters to be fleshed out brilliantly and to tie the situations together credibly.

I loved John Williams score as it was a truly memorable one and helped to evoke the atmosphere of the sixties. Some of the scenery was very well shot thanks to cinematographer Janusz Kaminski who has photographed some great movies for Spielberg such as Saving Private Ryan and AI: Artificial Intelligence as he succesfully showed the hustle and bustle of an airport and the insides of the planes themselves.

Overall this is a remarlable film despite the fact that at times the film feels overlong and tiresome. But thanks to a general atmosphere of enthusiasm and the chemistry of the cast this is a film worth watching if you're interested in the original story or as an introduction to Leonardo DiCaprio. I loved it and I'm sure that many others will too. Highly recommended.

Wonderful movie. Everything about it is flawless. I usually hate based on a true story movies but this one stopped that one. Two great actors working with a great director which should come out with a great film like this one. Its also funny to me how he did all this before he was an adult.

Unbelievable.

I don't rate just anything an 100 but this movie truly deserves it. It's put together in such a way that keeps you interested. There wasn't a moment where I found myself bored; I kept wanting more. It was long, but I didn't even realize until I looked at the time,
unlike other movies.....

If this movie were based on something fictional I'd probably critique its extremity and lack of realism, BUT this IS a true story! It goes to show that just because something appears to be unrealistic and seems far-fetched and insane, doesn't mean it's not true.

Plus, above all the other great qualities this movie has, the acting was awesome.

An all-star cast, a lot of slick direction, and an intelligent script make Catch Me If You Can one of the most intelligent films I have ever witnessed. The most astonishing thing about the film is that it's inspired by a true story; I never thought any real human could be this good at outsmarting the FBI.
