The sitcom fans who can't stand any sense of an unhappy ending, will not like this. Great movie for about a hundred reasons that still speaks to us today in verse about official corruption and mother's love . . . .

Angelina Jolie is what makes this film work. End of story

An excellent, possibly Oscar-winning performance by Angelina Jolie, and an interesting story, but the film itself did not make its mark.

I would categorize this movie as 'unbearable to watch'. The whole plot is fairly ridiculous to start out with: why would a mother leave a small boy unsupervised at home during the entire day ? Angelina Jolie is not a good actress, she is all hype, created by the media, and I am sure her name brings in a lot of money, but when it comes down to it, she cannot act. She plays a supervisor at some telephone company switchboard, but she looks lost all the time, and one really wonders why she would be offered a promotion. The dialogue is really forced and does not sound natural, the acting from the other actors is really also as bad as it could get...
In summary: bad movie, waste of time...

The movie was not original. You can guess what is going to happen, and a lot of the themes have been done to death in other movies (e.g. diabolically locking someone up in a psychiatric hospital).

Synopsis: In the 1930's a single woman's child disappears while she is at work. The cops claim to find her child, but it is not her's. They then try to coerce and force her to accept the child as her own. She is unable to give up the search for her child.

Final Analysis: Clint Eastwood in my estimation is a strong film maker with a proclivity for showing the humanity in dire situations. Angelina Jolie really delivers a strong performance as a mother suffering through the abduction of a child. The twist and turns in this movie show that sometime truth is stranger than fiction. It is interesting to see how the story unfolds and watching the characters over years find some semblance of settling back into a normal life.

RENT IT.
