Charlotte Gray is truly a wonderful film, highlighting the way a member of the resistance may have worked. The story starts by leading into a good reason for any person to enter a war-torn country, in this case love for a missing pilot. The plot is realistic, no matter what people say. There would have been Nazi troops marching around Vichy France, trains towards death camps would have left France and there was an active resistance is practically all the villages. The ending a bit odd though, as when Charlotte Gray actually re-unites with her lost pilot for whom she's risked everything, she decides to go back to France after the war and see the French man with whom she had worked with.
Overall a good movie. It's certainly not boring or dull. It's interesting and filmed in beautiful Southern French countryside which adds to the overall beauty of this well scripted film.

Charlotte Grey stars the Brilliant Cate Blanchet in a story reminiscent of the old British war movies about Odette Hallowes in "Odette" or Violette Szabo in "Carve her name with pride". All of these films have elements that intertwine with each other, such as strong women characters, wartime propaganda, romance, etc. But as a film of its type, "Charlotte Grey" fails quite badly.

Grey is a Scot who falls for an RAF pilot, but their relationship is cut short when he is shot down over occupied France. On the basis of this, she then decides to join the SOE (Special Operations Executive) as a spy for the British. Which is severely undernourished as a plausible reason to grab a weapon and a bit of silk and jump into enemy territory.

Her command of French comes in very handy (not that she needs it for this film) and her strong will is needed too, not to mention her unrealistic hyper-patriotic notions. Disappointingly, the first part of the movie flashes by far too quickly and I felt that more should have been shown of Grey's training in England etc, like in the two previous films mentioned.

Either way, Grey is dropped into France where, yes you guessed it, she falls in love again, this time with a member of the French resistance...of course she does. It seems to me sometimes, that all women can do in WWII films is fall in love with everyone in a 20km distance and "Charlotte Grey" is no exception unfortunately.

From here the film falls rapidly down a seemingly never-ending hill and it's a hill sodden with clich

A very good German drama with a fine plot You can't believe in and a pure romance of love, honour and fighting for peace! Fragile Charlote Grey makes us believe in heroism and a strong wish to fight Germans much more than many ambitious high-budget projects about WWII of American directors where You can't really get the point, what the movie is for!

Beautifully made with a great performance by Cate Blanchett, but its empty inside and ultimately a failure. Oscar bait that doesnt work.

UNDERRATED MOVIE, NICELY MADE ESPIONAGE THRILLER WITH THE CATE BLANCHETT DOING A GREAT JOB AS ALWAYS. IT DOES HAVE SOME SLOW MOVING MOMENTS, BUT OVERALL IT IS SATISFYING. NICE FEEL FOR THE 1940'S.
