An imperfect film, certainly, but pleasant to watch nonetheless. I thought that the scenario of the vacation to the beach was written beautifully- it unfolds in an uncomplicated way that truly reminded me of any summer outings I experienced with friends. I liked that the boys, although they were raised by Catholic nuns, there were no "Scary Nun" stereotypes. I liked that the couple who took take of them for those few weeks were actually kind, not the go-to uber-strict guardians. I mean, they felt like real people, and were well-acted. I liked the main, bespectaled boy with the hyperactive imagination and his bond with one of the women there.

What I liked least of all was the shaky characterization and plot near the end. In particular, Maps's character was all over the charts, pun intended. Did he want a father? Didn't he? If he didn't, why was he so upset about that revelation? Why spend time dwelling over his father-less-ness when it ultimately doesn't come to anything? And, why couldn't the couple have adopted more than one of them, anyway? Since when do horses eat fish?

This isn't to say that I didn't like Radcliffe's performance. Although not flawless, he has a very open, vulnerable style which lends itself well to many of the characters he's played so far.

All in all, this is a film I would recommend for its overall pleasantness (and fairly realistic dialogue, despite what others may say), but not one to expect greatness from.

Not bad despite being a little slow and boring from time to time. Its the acting and characters that make this film interesting as its good to see Daniel Radcliffe in a different role from Harry Potter, as he plays Maps who is like a Father-figure to the other three younger 'December Boys'. The supporting cast are also rather good, with the lead Lee Cormie standing out as well as Teresa Palmer who plays the seductive Lucy quite well. The storyline centers around the four 'December Boys' being taken from their orphanage to go on a holiday. Its on this holiday that Misty's desire to be adopted comes to the surface, as well as Maps desire for a young woman, Lucy, who seduces him. Overall its quite good but it is slow moving and a little boring here and there but fans of the Harry Potter actor should take a look to see Daniel tackle a new type of role.

After watching i thought this was a great movie. I mean everything was so realistic except the part under the sea. I saw a real environment ,like how people behave and reactions their attitudes. They were like real.

I liked this movie. It wasn't life changing or particularly profound, just nice. I will admit that I got it out because of Daniel Radcliffe, who I will forgive almost anything (acting included), but he did a lot better than I expected. A solid story and a few hearty laughs. I definitely didn't regret watching it.

Good acting but only really mildly interesting.

My main interest in this movie was seeing Daniel Radcliffe and while his performance was good the rest of the movie, while not bad, and while it had some good moments, was nothing particuarly special overall.

I was intrigued to watch this film because I wanted to see Daniel Radcliffe's acting outside of Potter. That being said I wasn't going to pay or go out of my way to watch it either. I was fortunate enough to catch the movie on my return flight from Europe back to the States. The movie was quite slow, but kept me interested enough to the end. Radcliffe still looked confused, but the movie did have its good moments. I'd watch again only if on TV with nothing else to do.

I read the book, so I knew what to expect in terms of the plot. Although the characters have younger ages in the book and are all the same age, I liked the difference in their interests in the movie. Sentimental? Loved that it was. Not enough sentiment in this world. We need more nuns doing cartwheels.... besides, that was only the fantasy of the boy. Daniel played his part well as a young man with limited experiences and being introduced to a girl, falling in love and being hurt. Loved the ending...always cry. Disappointed in the depiction of the Virgin Mary. If you believe, she is real, not inanimate in your life. I have GOT to visit Australia. A sweet little movie for Daniel's first time from Harry Potter.

There's nothing redemptive about this film. The characters are unrealistically flat and sometimes just plain strange. There is no emotion in the film whatsoever. Daniel Radcliffe seems to be there just to help this small film make money, and nobody else in the film can act. The film moves along at an agonizingly slow pace and stays that way for almost two hours. There's also some weird bits with this one boy seeing visions of nuns that do cartwheels. Skip this one hour. If you do end up watching it, you'll regret it. If you took a time machine and went back so that you didn't watch this puke-fest, you still wouldn't be able to mend the mistake of watching it.
