It looks very... humble. But it goes right into the main plot with so little introduction that it seems forced. It's unoriginal, the characters are not developed properly, and the script makes the acting look beyond corny (the guy with the English accent, VOMIT!). Some entertaining parts, though, and the story kept my attention.

One of Mel Gibson's Modest films. Intresting plot but very much so predictable.

Edge of Darkness

Starring: Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic

Director: Martain Campbell

Run-time: 1hr. 48min. Rated-R

Mel Gibson is back with the same role as every other movie that he's maid. Mel Gibson plays Thomas Craven a police detective who's
daughter that he hasn't seen in years comes back home. While she is home, she
is brutally murdered by a mysterious hit-man. Full of rage, and vengeance, Mel
Gibson will stop at nothing to find who and why his daughter was murdered. I
thought this movie was going to be one kick-ass father revenge Mel Gibson
movie, we have something like that, just without all those kick-ass revenge
scenes. this was a very good performance from Mel Gibson, specially because he
hasn't starred in a movie since "2002 Signs". but as a movie, Mel Gibson's Edge
of Darkness was not his big return that I was hoping it was going to be. Another
solid performance was by the very soft acted Danny Huston. The only big
problem with the movie was that at times the movie runs really slow. Specially
when it's a Mel Gibson revenge movie, and honestly that's why I think the movie was
just average because, Mel Gibson hasn't been in a movie sense 2002, and
everybody has been waiting for Mel Gibson to kick some ass because its been way
to long, well in this movie we don't have that, we have more of a mystery
detective movie, witch I think is going to throw a lot of people off. ya I
talked a lot of trash about this movie, but I did end up liking it at the end,
specially when you do see the only kick-ass fight scene with Gibson at the end,
and I will say that its worth the wait.

Overall Edge of Darkness had a very good plot, with a very good performance from Mel Gibson, but the movie at times runs really slow, and i thought it was going to be a lot better.

One thing that I have to start off saying about this movie is that it is great to finally see Mel Gibson back on the big screen again. Too bad it was not in a better film than this one. Gibson plays Thomas Craven a detective from Boston who watches his own daughter get shot on their doorstep He finds himself in the midst of a puzzle filled with conspiracy and corruption and it becomes his duty to figure out the missing pieces to the puzzle. Figuring he was the intended target he soon learns he wasn't and his daughter led a secret life that he did not know about. In the process of his chase to figure out the murder he is confronted by a secret government operative, played by Darius Jedburgh, who jobs is to find and hide the remaining evidence. Craven singleness about finding the reasons behind his daughters death will ultimately bring changes to his life. Gibson has a screen presence about him that just gets you into any thriller or action movie that you are watching. Is it enough to make this one worth seeing? I really do not know. His acting us superb but his accent needs a little tweeking. It comes and goes randomly throughout the film. Sometimes it is extremely strong to the point of sounding rediculous and other times it just dissappears completly. the surprise of the movie for me was the outstanding performance by Darius Jedburgh who is most famous for his role in The Departed playing Jack Nicholson's most trusted henchman. Jedburgh is great and honestly every time he is on screen with Gibson, he steals the show. His laid back approach in this whole situtation like he has seen it before, is just intriguing to the viewer. Still the movies twist and turn and twists and turns...and did a mention twists and turns? All really start to drag on. It makes you think harder than you really need to. With most films that do that there are a ton of plot points missed and holes that are open. It is great to see Gibson acting again it has been quite a few years, but I hope people wait until he comes out with another movie. You can really just skip this typical cop thriller.

this movie should be titled "im to old for this shit". gibson and others give admirable performances, but gibson looks more like grandpa than dad to his agrieved daughter whos shot in the beginning and gibsons character has to figure out why. its a bit predictable, you keep waiting for something to happen and gives away way to much way early in the film with no suprises whatsoever other than does he stop them or not.
not much on a high brow detective movie that it could have been. gibson looks like haggard shit, not sure if thats how he looks or thats how makeup was done, but damn, he looks like hes aged 20 years since his last movie, gibson looks more like a rehab recovery addict than a beat cop. lacks heart and excitement of lethal weapon movies, not a return to greatness but its at least a return. worth a rental if you get netflix when you have nothing to watch. not terrible, not great either. C- grade.
