Wasn't a bad movie, just expected more out of Neveldine/Taylor. Love the Crank films, very different from your normal action movie. Shot in the same ferentic way as those films, but lacking a good plot and having a rushed ending made this film just mediocre.

50 percent and I'm being very generous. It had a fantastic and beautiful story line. I felt like it could have been made so much better though. Perhaps if the director would have focused more on the displeasure of the people within "Society" or "Slayers" rather than the sexual snapshots every ten minutes or so. Overall, good story line, very bad layout. All over the place. Not terrible, but eh.

Mixing the ingredients of a good movie is not an easy task. For a thriller, you need action, suspense, a solid plot, and most of all, a point.

Unfortunately, this one is so full of hot air, it blows. Tons of action just isn't enough to compensate for the other elements that were not only not present, but grossly forgotten.

Don't waste your time or money on "Gamer." You can find better things to do with 95 minutes of your life.

An extremely profane version of Surrogates, just plain tiring to watch.

Obviously Gamer isn't anything new and the originality is none but the idea is still fantastic. The idea reminds me of two films that didn't to anything new also: Death Race (remake) and the new Surrogates that stole a lot from I, Robot and Ghost In The Shell just to name a few. Somehow i also see a little The Running Man but that is another story. Even though this movie falls into the "Seen it before" category, The directors Neveldine & Taylor (the brains behind Crank) make it their objective to make every scene as crazy and overdriven as possible, that puts a nice twist to this movie. Sometimes you have to wonder about the sanity of these people, who amazingly find any way to put breasts and crazy violence into every scene.

Gamer is not as crazy as Crank 2 and thank god for that but this movie was made before that one so that doesn't surprise me, they were just warming up. The directors run this movie very fast and put no restrictions on what they can or can't do and that makes it just better, when a movie is so overdriven you have no idea were the movie is going. In one scene Gerard Butler is in the middle of a gunfight and in the next Michael C. Hall is dancing like a little girl. That's how unpredictable how It was. There is no limit to what Neveldine & Taylor will do while they are playing with the material and they seem to enjoy it a lot. I thought i knew from the beginning that Gamer was going to follow the same formula as Death Race did, but to my surprise they did many things I didn't expect. In a bad and a good way.

I will never call this a quality action film, but the entertainment value is there and it's not hard to enjoy yourself while all the craziness is going on. Just like The Surrogates, it's very obvious when it comes to the society's conflicts although she spices it up a bit and makes the message come out a lot more extreme then expected. The music is very well done and helps the craziness very well, fits perfectly with the events taking place.

Gerard Butler does nothing except being himself, like we now him only he stops the jokes. Very little Character development but I think with a little character building, this movie could have been much better but obviously she would have slowed down the crazy flow of the movie and the directors would not have liked that. Butler is maybe cool but very little personality comes through his characters, he's switches from being serious, cruel and drunk. On the other hand I was really happy with Michael C. Hall but Dexter did a great job like I thought he would. He did everything he was supposed too, play the bad guy in an overdriven way. I really liked watching him but unfortunately he disappears from the movie for a good half hour and doesn't come back again until late.

Neveldine & Taylor make them self a very simple goal, to entertain the viewer and for the most part, I think it worked, that is saying for the people who enjoy craziness like this. These types of movies are not for everyone and with the way women are portrayed in here, I don't think any feminists groups ordered tickets for the premier. I am not going to recommend it to anyone strongly although I enjoyed the craziness a bit, but I am not seeing it again for a while.

It had so much potential. The idea was an amazing theological topic that I was seriously interested in. But, forty-five minutes in, I was sitting on my couch, woundering why I was even watching this movie. The unnecessary nudity and flying flesh was a huge distraction from the overall message from the movie. The cast was fabulous, the ending was spectacular, but it seemed like they had lost sight of thier original intentions. The really fat guy in the wheelchair made me want to gag as well.

Lame. Lame, lame, lame, and more lame. I had high hopes for this one. I liked the idea and was really excited to see what sort of action and morality tale would result. Instead, I was treated to a rather bland film with some crappy action sequences (that had the potential to be awesome) and only a notion of moral outrage.

All told, I got the sense that only 15 minutes into the movie, the actors that signed on to do this were sold using a different script. They all signed a contract and had to oblige, but initially, I'm sure they were expecting something else. Certainly it could not have been this thing that is only short of being called a travesty. In case you don't remember (or just don't know) the premise of the movie is this: In the future, you have soldiers that are controlled by other human beings as if they are playing a video game. People pay to control their counterpart in battles, which are real and have no "extra life" or "continue" options.

The story focuses on one particular gamer, and his counterpart. We follow them through a typical mission, and as the film progresses we see deeper into their own lives. Well, not really. First, it should be noted that the "icons" that they people are controlling are all death row inmates. They are offered the chance to play in this game and allow themselves to be controlled for the chance of being free. If they survive 30 battles, their sentence is ended, and they are free to go. The thing is, no one has ever survived that long in the game, until now.

I really felt like there was an initial idea of where they wanted this film to go. Then, as time went on, they came up with other ideas and splintered it off. Suddenly, they realized they didn't have anything to tie it all together, so they just made stuff up to insert as needed. It's all really crappy. The first scene you encounter is an action sequence. It had the potential of being good, but the camera work was so shoddy and the edits too poorly done, that you felt like you were one of those roller coaster cars that jerk you back and forth and bruise you up real good. The kind that make you regret waiting in line all that time just to sit there and get the crap knocked out of you. Just like that.

Overall, I'll just say that there was potential and it was not achieved. Not even close. I would suggest avoiding this film no matter what.
