Then we went to see Hellboy, in the runned down theatre on the bad side of town. It was funny, the place hadnt been rehauled since the 50s and there was a heavy atmosphere of Moth balls and Asbestos.

Despite that I enjoyed the movie. Its by far the Most Comicbook like Comic book movie they've ever made. it had all the good cliche's My only complaint was that the Nazi Guy was a whole lot cooler when he dressed like a Nazi, and that the Nazi Chick never did crap.

And was the villian Rasputin? he was disapointing whoever he was.

Finally, a Non-Marvel/DC comic book adaptation that actually proved to be a successful movie both critically and financially. I remember watching this in 2004 when it first came out. This film balanced whimsy with a dark story and riveting action scenes. That, and the characters are also likeable and humorous at the same time.

The story from the comic itself is quite imaginative, but when it translates itself to the movie, it's really inventive. The way the characters are developed here are done in such a way that I really felt connected. The romance was very sweetly developed and the dark atmosphere really helped to add to the weight of the story and interest. This is a successful adaptation from the comic BECAUSE it puts its focus on its characters and the situations which they are in, not just on the action. Now I might make it seem that the action is not at all important, but the thing is, action is also needed for a successful adaptation of any comic. What separates a good adaptation from a bad one is the balance of action and drama. If they're near the same, it'll obviously be an entertaining film, which is where this one succeeds. Overall, the story is very interesting and inventive and captured my attention after I saw it. Story: 8.7/10.

Now the acting wasn't as supreme as The Dark Knight or Spider-Man, but it's still great. Ron Pearlman gives a comical, witty yet compelling performance as Hellboy, and the people who played the villains were awesome. Overall, a decent job on the acting. Acting: 7.8/10.

As far as the action goes, the film never managed to move my attention one bit. It kept me entertained and also provided me with some decent thrills. The special effects on this film were great but most of the action seemed like decent live action. My only complaint is that even though the action and the special effects were great, it seemed as though without them the pacing seemed a bit slow. Yeah, the action put my mind out of it, but as interesting as the narrative was, it occasionally managed to stray to the realm of boredom. When things got going though, Hellboy really did kick some ass. Action: 8.4/10.

Yeah the pacing was slow, but the premise is great, the story is inventive, the acting is good and above all, the action was awesome. This is a film that can provide a lot of decent entertainment and if you haven't seen Guillermo del Toro's awesome movie, go see it. Overall: 8.4/10.

Though definitely entertaining, the plot falls short in some places. Also, there wasn't enough action, IMO. Since the action scenes were the most well-done part of the film, it would've benefited from more of them. Overall, an enjoyable fantasy/sci-fi/action film.

I knew nothing of the comic books and thought this looked ridiculous, but would be good for low expectation entertainment. It's done so well I had no trouble suspending belief from the first second. There's nothing out there like Hellboy. Good and fresh.

Who knew such an obscure comic could be made into such a successful movie? I did, when I saw Guillermo del Toro's name attached. Excellent creature design, interesting story, and dead-on deadpan acting from Ron Perlman. I thought the character of Abe was very underdeveloped, but overall the movie is fun.

Loads of action, good although a little complex plot and movie's bravery to kill off characters makes a great viewing.
