Sucktastic. If that were a word it would sum up this movie perfectly. Nothing was right. The casting was horrible, the plot was garbage, the story was just plain stupid, and the CGI was weak at best.

If you pulled out the Hulk fighting tanks scene and added some Heavy Metal music in the background it might make for a decent 5 minute video!

I cannot be glad enough that they remade this pile of garbage.

Hulk is one of those comic-based movies that people expect to see huge amounts of violence, gore and minimal back story. I am thankful this did not turn out that way. The more dialogue the more the story unfolds and the more the characters reveal hidden secrets that get us hooked. The familial relations and lovers' interest support the emotional turmoil the character Banner/Hulk suffers and in turn lets out with nothing to hold him back. The father figure-turned super-villain proves a point: Hell hath no fury like a father's scorn. The film's score film score also proves elemental to the film's many desert locations, although I'm still a little unsure why he chose a middle eastern approach. The main theme is primarily used throughout the film's score and reminds me that of Alice falling down the rabbit hole. Why they even bothered rebooting the film is beyond me because in my opinion this version is the better make.

Nick Nolte saves this film. Jumping, talking, many flashbacks. Only noteworthy parts are with Nolte.

This film is generally seen as a flop yet it does just as well at the box office as the supposedly improved re-boot years later - much, much better when you allow for inflation.

Ang Lee brings the more mature comic storylines of the Hulk to the big screen and pulls in a couple of non-genre fans while he is at it. The target audience may be disappointed, but then they probably are with the similar Hulk storylines that occur in the comics.

Lee was frustrated by the budgetary constraints on the special effects and I'd think the film would not be 100% what he was aiming for, but his comic book window direction, Hulk pursuit and Banner's Jekyll and Hyde Fraudian laced trauma make this a sophisticated Hulk production they'll never attempt again. In time, it'll be treasured - maybe!

It needs to be given the special effects Lee would have wanted, have a couple of pointless scenes removed altogether and this would then be a wonderful vision capturing fans and non-fans alike.

Most Hulk comic book stories after about 1985 are like this - I once read a saga featuring the Hulk up against an ordinary man who rapes and murders children before dumping them in a swamp. The Hulk is frequently brave comic work and this is a brave movie attempt that only fails on about 20-25 minutes of useless footage and poor effects - close your eyes on about 80% of those.
