even though the acting is solid, the story didn't caught my attention... it's cheesy and boring, just like the directing...

The 70's were an amazing decade for movies with several breakthroughs and genres. So in ending such a creative era, enter the strong drama that will bring you to tears. And oh, was this a popular tool to use in films in the 80s. Expecially for Steven Spielberg, who mastered this craft. The last movie to win the award for best picture in the 70's brought this 'audience gripping tool' to a new high. It's one thing to bring someone to tears if a main character dies or someone is suffering. But when Kramer Vs. Kramer was released in 1979, audiences were not only hit personally and emotionally, they cried their eyes out.

Meryl Streep springs it on Dustin Hoffman that she is leaving him for no reason other than finding her own identity. Hoffman is left with everything including taking care of his son, completely on his own. He has to learn what it is like to be both a mother and a father by not only taking over Streep's chores and responsibilities, but also bonding with his son in a way he never has before. There is laughter, there are tears. But the real drama starts to happen when Streep shows up after a years time, and now starts to demand time with her son. The drama goes to court and it starts getting nasty.

Part of the strength of this movie is the argument of if the mother should automatically get full custody of their child if both are good parents. Hoffman and Streep are without question excellent in this drama. And Justin Henry plays a boy that you both want to hug and kill at the same time. I found this film very entertaining and believe it's one of the best divorce-custody movies of all time. See it and be touched and entertained.

The best thing about this film was Dustin Hoffman. That's it.

melodrama only in its framework, this picture is actually a social study of parenthood and limitations of the role of the single parent. leading actors are strong and real as ever... as ebert has said, this movie dlesn't take sides, and that makes it so good.

It is a good film, but I think maybe its a tad overrated. I found the film a bit lukewarm, especiall Dustin Hoffman's character, although he evolved into a good parent by the end. The film was touching, but it didnt really make me cry. I thought I would find it more moving, but I didnt really. I though the relationship breakdown would be moving, but it was all very composed. It was more the impact on the kid that was the most touching. I thought the father and son relationship could have been stronger though. The film starts off bumpy, but then gets a bit stronger.

tearjerking family drama that has great cinematography and powerful performances from Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep. it feels sappy and forgettable, though

This was okay. I liked the Dustin Hoffman character and I liked watching him evolve as a parent. However, I hated the Meryl Streep character. She just got up and left, leaving her kid with an at-the-time incompetent father. The decision at the hearing was extremely difficult to fathom.

Had been meaning to see Kramer Vs. Kramer for some time now. Mainly because I am a massive Hoffman fan and it beat Apocalypse Now for best picure so it had to be good. Can understand why it won the oscar as it deals with some very real and personal issues which a lot of viewers can relate to. Excellent acting from Hoffman, Streep and by the young actor who played the little boy Billy.

Pretty touching movie. It is very low key at points. I would say the beginning was low key, middle was more comedy and the end was dramatic. In all the movie was very nice. Besides it being boring at some parts. The cast I had mixed feelings about. Dustin Hoffman was excellent. The little boy was pretty good too. Meryl Streep was just getting on my nerves. I could not stand her acting or her character. So overall, nice movie.

Amazing movie, raw emotion, and superb acting from everyone. As a child of divorced parents I find this film can be slightly ideal at times(could be put down to Hoffmans character being quite well off), but manages to stay on a sincere level throughout. Most importantly though, it inspires.
