The perfect example that a movie can have bad directing, and still be good.

Shyamalan once again experiments by mixing horror with other genres, this time with fantasy, something that could've work better if he had try to make this PG.After all,it's based on a bedtime story he made up for his kids.

3.5/10

This one starts off in a surprisingly positive direction. Paul Giamatti does a great job, while the entire supporting cast is colourful and somewhat entertaining, if completely two dimensional. Unfortunately the movie just kind of sags and slowly dies under the weight of it's own badly utilized ideas (lawn wolves?), clumsy directing (party scene), the passionate belief that your fellow tenants will be thrilled to help a water nymph get rescued by a giant eagle as long as you give said tenants titles such as "The Defender," and "The Healer,"The Interpreter," and absolutely no evidence that anything magical is going on whatsoever. Also, the answers to the problems of the world lie on the sides of cereal boxes. Who knew?

I actually really loved this movie. Once you suspend your disbelief and prepare yourself for a fantastic, imaginative bed-time story, I think that this film is really meaningful and touching. It's definitely not a typical M. Night film, and I think it's better for it.

The poster was more impressive than the actual movie.

Our own healing comes when we offer healing to others. Community is essential in helping discover who we are. Our purpose is bigger than we can imagine for ourselves. We can be used even when we feel useless.

These are a few of the messages that comes out in beautiful and strong ways in Lady in the Water. Like most M. Night Shyamalan films, this movie isn't about what it seems. It isn't about the chick in the pool. This is the story of a broken man in need of salvation, told in beautiful imagery with humor and heart.

I wonder if I was the only one who thought, as a concept, this might be shymalan's next hit. Now to be fair, it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be, but it wasn't anything to write home about.

As said by Donald Trump, "M. Night Shyamalan, your fired!" Or atleast you should consider a five year retirement.

Maybe, if he would put his arrogance aside once, he would be successful.
There can't be another Chaplin or another Tarantino or Coppola.
If you can't write scripts - you can't. And there's nothing about it.
Shyamalan is a very good director. He has an individual style (which not many have). He works very well with the camera and always has a great cast.
But he can't write stories!
The screenplay is so much shit that this movie just can't be good.
