I have always enjoyed watching the Coen Brothers' movies... Most movies they've made have had great stories, a great entertainment value clubbed with fabulous performances.

"Miller's Crossing" is no different. In fact, this could be my #1 Coen Brothers' movie if I were to rank them.

"Miller's Crossing" tells the story of two rival Mob bosses, Leo (Albert Finney) and Johnny Caspar (Jon Polito) and Leo's most trusted adviser, Tom Reagan (Gabriel Byrne). Things take a turn for the worse when Leo refuses to comply with Caspar about getting rid of one bookie who he feels has been cheating him. The story continues and what follows is a thrilling tale of double-cross and shifting loyalties.

Right from the opening sequence ("I'm talking' about friendship...."), in which the brilliant Jon Polito as Johnny Caspar is relating his problem to Leo (Finney), this film makes an impression and it is immediately clear that the rest of the film is going to be just as impressive!

The performances are all top-notch, including John Turturro, Gabriel Byrne, Albert Finney, Jon Polito and J.E. Freeman. Marcia Gay Harden is decent as well.

On the technical front, cinematography by Barry Sonnenfeld is superb...so is the haunting musical score by Carter Burwell. The film has been edited really well. The dialogs are superb and well-written! And of course, let's not forget Joel Coen's brilliant direction.

"Miller's Crossing" is a fine gangster film, not to be missed by any respectable movie buff and deserves to be ranked amongst the best gangster movies of all time.

I do not like using this analysis, but Miller's Crossing is the perfect example of a movie that is very entertaining during the scenes in which there is some action taking place, and endlessly boring in the "talking parts". The problem is we are not given much insight into the characters and the story is hard to connect with for us to really care about what's going on. There wasn't anything that bad about it, it's just that the movie severely lacks that engaging Coen Bros quality we've all grown to love.

The "Danny boy" shootout scene was, however, tremendous.

This is another one of the Coen Brothers movies that have taken a genre and flipped it on its head with an original and brilliant end product. The gangster genre doesnt usually feature many laughs but Coen Brothers include some dark comedy which is anchored by the great performances from the whole cast, something that is famous in Coen Brothers films, they know how to push their actors and help them immerse themselves in a charachter, one way of doing this is perfect costume design and set design. From "Barton Fink" to "No Country For Old Men" every detail has been thought out and everything looks perfect and there is no change here. The costumes look sensational and the sets are accurate to an age that is not revealed by is strongly hinted at to be pre 2nd world war through the guns costumes and dialogue. This is another thing that Coen Brothers are famous for, brilliant dialogue, the repetition of lines is used in a lot of their films and is usually used for comic affect to show off charachter traits and what means alot to them. I
Overall its a dark and intelligant film that leaves a lot to the imagination but still is very detailed and involving

To me, Millers Crossing was very very boring. Its probably one of the worst gangster films I have ever seen. I almost fell asleep several times because of all the talking. Im not a Coen brothers fan, so maybe Im a little bias, but this movie sucked in my opinion.

Miller's Crossing serves as the Coen brothers' version of a 30's mobster film. Albeit slow to progress in points, a realistic and convincing walk through early gangster society with strong performances from the entire cast.

A Coen brothers gangster flick that's as cool as the other side of the pillow. Seriously though, they once again fail to disappoint in the least bit, delivering this equal smart and stylish film that twists and turns like any great gangster drama or Coen movie. Awesome stuff as usual from my favorite filmmaking duo.

The Coen Bros. make history with "Miller's Crossing". I label it as one of the best gangster films i've ever seen. Gabriel Byrne, Albert Finney & John Turturro show the Coen's how well they can act, and i'm pretty sure they blew them away by "looking into their hearts".

This has to be one of the most overlooked gangster films made in recent years, and one that easily makes the top 10 list of Gangster Films ever made. Smart dialogue and sudden bursts of brutal violence make this crime story very enjoyable to any fan of the genre.

This has to be one of the most overlooked gangster films ever. It is not only a incredibly great movie but it's directed by none other than the Coen Brothers. The movie isn't your typical gangster film with sensless shooting and a senless script, it's much more than that. This movie has it all: script, plot, acting, directing and anything you can want in a film. This is my favorite movie from the Coen's, nonetheless one of my favorite movies of all-time!
