Another fantastic Bob Hoskins performance. I really didn't know he was so top notch until recently.

The story was fine, nothing spectacular, but the acting was really where it was at. And the ending was not at all what you would expect to happen, which was fascinating in a way. They did manage to squeeze a lot of different plot elements into a relatively short and simple film. But there really wasn't a lot to push this movie past a "pretty good". It's very British and has a bit of an 80s vibe to it, and the people they chose to cast really fit the parts.

That's about all I can say for it. It was worth my time, but I doubt I'll be purchasing the DVD.

Neil Jordan always seemed a little dull to me, but I always wanted to see this one for Hoskins, and I'm glad I checked it out. Mona Lisa is entertaining as hell because the drama's dead-on with Hoskins along to sadden it up and bring the goods acting-wise, plus it's a mystery thriller that's seedy and unpredictable in all the right ways. Once it ends, it feels a bit slight, and almost like it could be easily refiltered into a Lifetime movie, but even though it walks a fine line, it mostly keeps things straight, and it's always nice to see an action, thriller, horror, or other genre flick that has so much heart, and Mona Lisa is as gut-wrenchingly real and emotional as it is eerie. Hoskins owns it.

(****):

Bob Hoskins give one of his best performances in this film. I loved the story and I found Hoskins' character to be a good man and very likeable character. One of 1986's best films.

I didn't want the film to end, that is, until the end. I am not really sure what happened. I plan on revisiting. It is possible it never existed at all except as a fiction told by George to his friend. You know, as in he made it all up, but we still got to watch it all on film. A story within a story. Which isn't all bad. I liked it. The film and the story. The acting was good. Though Tyson, at times, too much on the drama queen stuff. Hoskins was brilliant. Clever, and a fun film to watch. My rating may go up one more notch after a second try.

Well I definitely waited to long to write this. I liked the story overall I just wasn't that impressed with it. Bob Hoskins gives an excellent performance as the main character. I thought a lot of parts of it reminded me of Taxi Driver which also didn't help my opinion. Nothing that you need to run out and rent right away.

I'm currently doing an intern at a movie company and watching all the classics. (well, not all..)
And it's really funny.. Well, nah, not really. It's so freaking boring.. but anyway.. you have to watch them, do you? So you can say "ohh, I've watched all those great old classics, they're the best movies ever" etc. blahblah (bullshit, but who cares).

Just had to watch Miracle in Milan. Haha, worst "movie" ever, is it? (ok, perhaps not the worst worst.. but still).. "Actors", if you can call them actors, are so pathetic.. of course its unfair to judge them by today's time, but what's even more unfair is to say "oh, all those old movies were so great" shit and stuff. anyway.
