Natural Born Killers has some brilliant scenes, (too?) trippy editing and a great script but may for some be too unethical.

Damn. Everytime I think I've had a hard time reviewing a movie another movie shows up that's even harder to review. Just as I finished my review of 'A Serious Man' I started watching this. It blew my mind.

Natural Born Killers is a movie about two psycho kilelrs: Mickey and Mallory. They kill whatever moves, just for fun and always let one person alive to tell the tale (this is so typical Tarantino :D ). At one moment they get caught and go to jail. But this isn't the end for them... Bound by their love (yes, they are lovers and their relationship somehow reminded me of True Romance, of which the script was written by dear mr. Quentin too).

So the story seems really cool. It is. But it is unethical as hell, Tarantino lost all is moral breaks here (perhaps the reason he didn't want to direct it himself...?), men and women get killed alike. Even tough everything has some sort of function in this movie some things are really hard to stomach: I found the openingsscene shocking. And that's what I didn't like about this movie: it's really really a bad-ass movie. Not always in a nice way.

Then another thing that made this review hard was the way of editing. Is it brilliant or is it pretentious? I mean, is it cool or is it showing-off? I guess it's a combination of both: to some it might be like an ego-trip of the director. "Look at how many crazy effects I can use in one movie!"
To me, the effects added something unique to this movie. Altough sometimes it got so trippy, I just had to have a little break.

Final judgement: Natural Born Killers has some brilliant scenes, (too?) trippy editing and a great script but may for some be too unethical.

the acting is great and the way the film was directed and made is something new, and it works. although the film is visually stunning, i didn't seem to like it very much, it seemed like too much was going on. overall the movie is good but its too hectic and has your eyes all over the screen.

I don't know how a movie can get much better than this! Full of relentless violence (violence with a point behind it instead of being senseless), the acting is top notch, creating a very raw, eery sense of realness, the soundtrack is amazing (thank you Trent Reznor), and the visuals are STUNNING. A rare thing that will be around for a very long time.

It's old and slightly dated by now, however, what a rip-roaring hallucinogenic tornado of a film. Sure, Oliver Stone is never going to win any prizes for subtlety , but it's a breathless and relentless romp of a movie.

The ever-changing and inconsistent style of filming only helps contribute to the brutality and chaos of serial-killer obsessed contemporary America, whilst the almost ever-present fragility of the accompanying soundtrack helps to develop the notion of instability and in fact, a profound melancholy at the heart of the film. All the main characters' eccentricities are suitably wild and exaggerated to serve it's chaotic intentions, although the notion of tragi-comedy may seem a little distasteful for many.

The style and bluntness of Stone's work will certainly not be to everyone's taste, but it's never dull, never plodding, it never takes itself too seriously and is actually a colourful, vibrant and imaginative reflection on a dark and tragic contemporary fascination.

What a fucked up little movie this is. Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis play famous serial killers, parodying the sort of celebrity treatment a lot of serial killers have gotten over the years...and Robert Downey Jr. gets his head cut off or something.....It's weird as hell, but a technichally great movie and another notch on Oliver Stone's belt for controversial, but overally good movies.
