Once Upon A Time In America is chilling. Sometimes it could send chills down your spine. A very great movie, running at 3 hrs, and 45 minutes long, this is one of the best gangster movies I have ever seen. Robert De Niro gives a great performance (he pretty much always does) and James Woods is just as great in this movie. Some parts may be a bit graphic for some people, the story is great. One key factor of Once Upon A Time In America is the music. Excellent music by Ennio Morricone, who brings his beautiful chilling music from Once Upon A Time In The West, all the way to bring even more chilling and beautiful music to this movie.

If you're of gangster movies, Robert De Niro, Sergio Leone, or all of the above, you will definately enjoy this movie as much as I do.

Ok, here we have to say that there are 2 versions of this movie. The US cut version where censorship makes it a pout-porri of illogical non-sense, and the European not censored version: here is the hallucinating great film.

Once Upon A Time In America is the last picture ever made by Sergio Leone. A slow burning Epic gangster film starring Robert De Niro and James Woods. Also has Small appearences from Joe Pesci and Burt Young.

This film is a very long but contains everything you would want from your typical gangster flick: Betrayal, Friendship, Love, Authority, Violence and of course powerful acting, a terrific score from legendary composer Ennio Morricone and great direction by Leone.

I would love to see the full uncut version of this as some scenes automatically cut and alot is left unexplained without depth such as Noodles relationship with Eve. Leone's original cut was between 6 and 10 hours I believe.

Recommend to any fans of the gangster genre.

Once Upon a Time in America is a great film overall, but at times it can be very boring and dull. The story is pretty well written, but at times it can be hard to follow. The plot jumps around quite a bit, which gets really annoying, at least for me. The acting in this movie is very good though, and there is a great cast to. The cast includes actors such as Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and James Woods. Once Upon a Time in America is a pretty good depiction of old New York as well, which makes it pretty interesting. So, if you haven't seen OUATIA, try it out.

The thing is pretty good in all levels when the people are young, but the parts where they are older belong to a different, cornier movie, especially in the end (the laughable truck scene). The soundtrack is not very good, safe for a piano work; the pan flute is completely out of place in such a genre and the violins make it sentimetal. And also you know there's a problem when the guy you're supposed to root for turns out to be a rapist and all his friends surely handle their women as the little bitches they are and the women do nothing about it. But highly entertaining.

the music interferes all the time, the beginning 20 minutes basically do not need to be there (a long and subdued movie), but the flashback parts are pretty vivid, pretty much all the actors and actressses are great...just so slow

Serves as a perfect example of how adept and proficient Sergio Leone was as a director. I thought this movie would be more like a sweeping epic gangster movie similar to The Godfather. In a way it is, but more often than not it isn't. The two movies frequently contrast and differ with each other. I'm not sure if it's even fair to compare the two because the two films are aiming to accomplish different agendas and both follow distinct paths. The ambiguity and various forms of symbolism presented throughout the film will likely leave people scratching their heads in a state of confusion. I don't think Leone ever meant the film to be cut and dry in any obvious way. He really wanted the viewer to come to their own conclusions as to what has taken place by the conclusion of the film. Leone wanted the audience to think deeply about it. This is truly a thought provoking. Once Upon a Time in America is intelligent, has an intricate narrative, a multiple-layered plot and is profound. The movie is without a doubt an impressive achievement and a work of cinematic genius.

Outstanding film. One of the best directed films of all-time. De Niro and Woods were outstanding throughout the whole movie. The make-up was at it's best too. I thought it was very creative how the story was layed out in a flashback structure. Taratino probably got the idea off of Leone for films like Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bill series.
