I am going to be honest here - I hated this movie, thought it was a gigantic waste of time and was deeply offended that I spent $8 to waste 2 or so hours of my life on it. Harsh words? Yes.

On the other hand, I do know that some really enjoyed this movie, my husband being one of them. I just didn't. I found the plot line wretched, the actors delivered a horrible performance and actually found myself falling asleep during the movie.

I will never, ever watch this movie again and am almost embarrassed that my husband bought it on dvd. :)

In truth this movie is nothing more than a fun filled, action adventure with enough eye candy to keep our eyes interested and characters that hold our attention. Sky Captain reminded me largely of the Indiana Jones films. The plot and depth was nothing special, it was just a very entertaining ride with off beat characters and a unique direction.

For a movie that was created inside a studio with CGI and special effects... i'm widely impressed.
I must admit i got chills when the robots toke over New york. It's Haunting images brought me back to my memories of 9/11 i was covered in goosebumps. The only downfall to Sky Captian and the world of tomorrow was it's weak ending.

Visually very interesting but the odd, disjointed mix of technology in the movie and the ultimately unsatisfying story does not live up to the viewing.
It does have the alternate universe feel to it plus the purposeful dated look but while it does look cool I just could never get over the whole concept of they are building all these cool gadgets but yet they are still flying propeller planes, granted they could turn into subs but this just heightened oddness.
Personally I have never really cared for Law and Paltrow and this movie emphasized the coldness those two have always left me feeling after seeing one of their movies as I never get much emotion from them or cared about their performance.

Yes, it's eye candy, but the plot is so razor thin it's hard to take seriously.

Visually stunning and wholesomely engaging with it's retro art direction and playful characters. It's a dreamscape torn from the pages of pulpy comics of an almost forgotten era, and as far as pure imagination is concerned; yes, the sky is the limit.

A visual wonder for the eyes, but that's all there is to it.

Groundbreaking and original in a way unknown to movies, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is a great film with plenty of action and more than enough originality to make it worth remembering.

Not since "The Rocketeer" has a adventure movie delivered such a classic 1940s fantasy storyline along with terrific state-of-the-art visual effects. "Sky Captain And The World of Tomorrow" has a style all its own, not to mention the fact it was all shot against greenscreen and in certain parts, you wouldn't know it. The cast did a great job in this, Jude Law was born to play Sky Captain because he has the vintage matinee-idol look that works for him, Gwyneth Paltrow looks like she's having fun playing Polly Perkins & Angelina Jolie's role may a little short on screen time but she makes it work much like her previous film roles. This isn't some flashy modern action movie that comes & go, this is a completely different action movie alltogether. Also it's watchable for all ages, so, whether you're a kid or a kid at heart, "Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow" is greatly recommended!
