What in the hell is the matter with people? Speed Racer was a charming movie with a completely COHERENT storyline (you have to be an absolute BONEHEAD not to get it.) and dazzling (not headache inducing) special effects. I think the critics who call the beautiful effects headache inducing must be those same women who get a headache every single day of their lives (yes this is a large percentage of them) but refuse to go to the doctor to get examined. If Nascar races were like the races in this film they might actually be worth viewing. The film is packed with excitement, the cast is great- John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Emile Hirsch, Matthew Fox, Christina Ricci - all fill their roles swimmingly. And the story is absolutely endearing and fun, with what I would say is one of the best happy endings ever put on screen! Everybody needs to help me fix this rotten rating on here, because it absolutely doesn't make any sense. Hollywood-you give me a headache.

Speed Racer is easy to dislike, as it is riddled with cliche and corny dialogue and story. However, assuming you can get past that, it is entertaining and and the special effects are beautiful (assuming they don't cause you to have an epileptic seizure.) 6.5/10

This was a pretty good adaptation. I did like the cast and had some funny part's in the movie that entertained me and the action scene's were also good. However, the problem was that the special effect's look like you're doing drugs and you soon start to get a seizure while watching this movie. But overall, it's not as bad as Dragonball:Evolution and it is an okay movie to rent.

As a film, it sucks. As a pure entertainment film/special effects based film, it also sucks. The effects in Speed Racer weren't that impressive: they were way too obviously CGI, and genuinely weren't that intense. Aside from John Goodman, every single performance in this film is incredibly over-acted, in a really bad way. Nothing is subtle, and the story is total crap. The humour it tried to insert was painful to watch. The young actor that played Spritle was one of the worst performances I have ever seen in any film, and I think it's safe to say we got more emotion out of his chimp. The entertainment with this film was awful, you'd have thought you could have had the tiniest amount of fun at all, but then we got a dozen flahbacks which left me incredibly bored. It's a really boring film overall, and you shouldn't watch it in my opinion.

Remember when you were a kid and you love this kind of stuff? will I do and I now see why my parents thought it was stupid. This film was faithful to the anime but unless your a die hard fan or just never grew up you'll see why this film is so terrible.

If this movie had been released now and benefited from digital 3D then i'm sure alot more people would have enjoyed it. But i still really liked this film. The Wachowski brother's have done a brilliant job of resurecting the classic anime onto the big screen and the strong cast also help in making this film fast and fun. Honestly it deserves to be more popular.

37%!? Poor Speed! I really liked this movie. It's extremely well done. The visuals are amazing, but never distracting. There is a lot less background effects in Transformers, yet I never knew what was going on in that movie. The action in Speed Racer was very easy to follow, even with all of the flashing colors and lights. The score was perfect. I especially liked the hints of the original theme song during the more dramatic moments. Christina Ricci did a great job, almost looking like a cartoon at some points. Even the kid, who was incredibly cheesy, wasn't the least bit annoying. It was very faithful to the original cartoon and highly underrated.

Speed Racer is a pretty faithful adaptation overall, it's cheesy but charming, silly but firm, with some great performances from Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman and Susan Sarandon. The story is very simple and is mostly an excuse to string together the impressive race sequences, which it does exceedingly well. A few gripes: every now and then, some jokes fall flat on their face and the film could've benefited from a shorter running time. At 2 hours and 15 minutes, a couple of overly long dialogue sequences could have been easily cut to improve the film. Overall it's a great movie and extremely fun to watch.
