TNG created some of the most wonderful "Star Trek" characters of all time, particularly Picard, Worf, Riker, and Data. All of them have shining moments in "First Contact" which, in keeping with the best "Star Trek" films, merges philosophical discourse, silliness, and moving sincerity (enhanced here by Jerry Goldsmith's melodic score). Picard and friends travel back in time to stop the Borg from preventing Earth's first contact with alien life. The irony is that on this quest, Picard becomes corrupted by his desire for revenge--the Borg seek to perfect humanity, but they bring out the worst in those who wish to preserve individuality. All is eloquently resolved though, and the film is filled with energized moments, from Picard's climactic bellow to Data turning the tables on the Borg.

The best Star Trek movie to date excluding the 2009 film. This movie can please people who arent familiar with trek and it also is a good movie in the first place, the best and most well tought out plot of the trek universe with the best action.

A great movie with an ensemble cast. It just makes sense when the cast of Next Generation is on the big screen.

By far the best of the Next Generation, a blend of Star Trek II and IV, the story pits Picard against a former nemesis while the crew must go back in time to prevent the Borg from taking over earth. The movie doesn't need top-dollar effects to make it exciting. By the far a Top 3 Trek movie.

A great entry in the Star Trek film franchise. Solid action and plot: exactly what I want from a Star Trek film. Admittedly though, I was a bit sceptical, it took me a long time to enjoy the cast of the first Star Trek crew seeing as I'm not a Star Trek TV fan, so I feared my lack of knowledge/interest in the Next Generation would leave me disliking the film, but it succeeded because the characters were great fun to watch. I liked the villains in the film, but they're not as good as Khan. Data, who got on my nerves in the first film, has grown on me. I think the reason the film succeeds is that it offers more logic than technobabble, and has a fair amount of action whilst still keeping it resemblant of Star Trek. Still, it's not as good as II,III or IV in my opinion.

No doubt that First Contact is the "creme of the crop" with the Next Generation crew! Only one other Trek flick that I can think of that'll trump it, Khan's return!

While this movie rocked it was NOT the best ST film. After watching 2009's Trek that became my favorite but setting that aside I felt this was Paramount's way of helping the franchise with a root enemy 'The Borg' to succeed with box office numbers. While to me the action wasn't my ST style to much hand to hand combat if you will, but Franks made it happen and I give this Trek film 8/10.
