It was so untrue to the game and i was so mad to see my favorite game as a kid turned into a film that was garbadge

its nothing like the game i liked it but not enough to rate it higher than 50

A lot of you are probably wondering A) what in god's name is this movie? And B) why in god's name am I actually putting up a review of it? Well to answer those questions in order, the movie is obviously a reinterpretation of the Super Mario Bros. into film and I'm reviewing it because I thought that I had a few too many good reviews up and because it scarred my childhood. A quick warning, this movie is HORRENDOUS. It's easily one of the worst movies of all time and I'm counting all the infamous Mystery Science Theater 3000 movies.

Lets start with the one positive. The movie effects are pretty good. For example, even though they screwed up the goombas BIGTIME, which I can't even see as being possible to screw up, the effects that create them are quite decent. The same goes for Bowser. The makeup is also fantastic and manages to create some fantastic creatures despite the fact that the creatures are horribly misrepresented.

The negatives. EVERYTHING ELSE. Plot, acting, characters and the fact that they don't follow the game series AT ALL. The plot is horrible. They had a decent concept going but it seriously just went downhill fast. The acting is just as bad. Everyone goes over the top with their acting and the lines are especially cheesy. The characters. Dear god. This is where the movie really starts going extremely downhill. The characters are terrible. Whoever wrote this script should never write ever again. Bowser is annoying and not really threatening at all. The Mario brothers aren't actually even brothers in this damn movie. HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU SCREW THAT UP? SERIOUSLY! HOW IS IT POSSIBLE? IT'S THE F@&*ING TITLE! Okay, done. But seriously how do you manage to make the Mario BROTHERS into a father-son team. Ugh. And the final nail in the coffin: the fact that they don't follow the game at all. Yes, I know directors who take on one of these video game movies have creative license to do what they choose. But you have to put it to a reasonable standard. Truthfully I don't even think this game deserved a movie. The entire plot of all the games is Bowser kidnaps Peach who is then rescued by Mario and company. Who thought this was a good idea? They have some serious issues.

This movie is terrible. Just straight bad. Never see this movie. Do yourself a favor and pass up this movie if you get the chance.

it just keeps going! I could not finish watching this movie for about 8 years. and no i am not joking. it jut keeps getting worse and does not even relate to the game unless you read the title...
my final opinion, It sucks.

In a desperate attempt to save Super Mario bros the movie was passed from writer to writer and thus one of the worst thing to happen to the general audience was born, neither Mario nor Luigi were Italian, there last names are (and I'm not even kidding) Mario Mario and Luigi Mario and not even brothers in the movie they are father and son. The only thing keeping me from turning it off was Dennis Hopper. This movie had only the name in common with the game and ends with a cliff hanger but did so badly in domestic box office sales that they wouldn't do a sequel. Maybe they should fix the holes in the first one before thinking of a Mario bros 2? I would rather set myself on fire then see this again.

why? why cant i rate things a 0%? It has to be 10%. Even giving it a 2% would be generous. Rotten tomatoes, please let us be able to rate films 0%. I don't do it a lot, but some cases, I need to.

People love the Mario Bros. in games so they'll be fun to watch in a movie right?
NO!!!!!

Lots of Name dropping and references to the video game at the most random-est moments. The plot had nothing to do with the story line of the games nor did many of the charters match up with their game counter parts. Since when is Toad a Goomba? Toad is a Mushroom! And Daisy isn't supposed to be in love with Luigi, she's supposed to be in love with Mario. And what was with the Bob-Bomb wearing Reeboks? Can someone say product placement? Although I will give it some originality points for it unique costumes, strange creatures and scummy setting. This is one bad movie that is enjoyable because it's so bad and inaccurate to the games. I'd say rent this movie if anything or go to your local $5 DVD bin if you MUST own it.

This movie is not as bad as many claim it to be. If it had taken itself seriously, it would deserve the low rating it has received, but it doesn't. The games themselves have plots as thin as paper, so I applaud the writers for coming up with something original.
