The realty of this movie is absurd, but overall it is a fun flick with semi-dark moments, a few times the plot lost me.

If you're eligible to vote you'll find yourself in Costner's vile character, like it or not. Too apathetic to vote? Ignorant of your vote's worth? Or the issues? Swayed by personality rather than ideology?

There's alot of truth to be had in this film and it deserves to have it's shortfalls ignored for making a serious issue so simplistically accessible. Like 'Super Size Me' it should be on the school national curriculuum

Dreadful, even by Costner's standards. The premise of this movie seems to be that if we only had more voter fraud and trusted the media more . . .

Predictably the far left press doesn't like this movie. Perhaps that is because the people who star in the movie are not liberals? Perhaps because the main character in the movie is not a liberal? Perhaps because a single father was raising a very bright and grounded daughter?

This is actually a pretty good movie. It left me teary eyed quite a few times. If you can break past your far left hate and be a HUMAN....you might like the movie. However if all you see is far left = good and everything else = bad....then you will surely see nothing else to this movie than a poor, dumb, worthless redneck.

Is this the best movie ever? No, not at all. Is it a good movie worth watching? Worth watching with your kids? Easily.

Anyone that says otherwise is just a hateful far left robot who has been taught to hate everything that competes with their ideology. Ignore them. Perhaps you already do. Thats why their ratings are so pathetic.

This is one of the biggest "stinkers" I have seen in ages. The script and plot are so thin and stupid that they're not even worthy of critique.

UGH!

In my opinion, KC hasn't been in a decent film since "Field of Dreams". Must need the bucks to take on turkeys.

This was one of those movies that could have been so much more, but it unfortunately wasn't, mainly because of mediocre writing and directing.

I thought Kevin Costner was great in the movie, and I thought that he was snubbed of a Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a comedy or musical, he defintely should have been nominated. The little girl in the movie(Madeline Carroll) is also really good, especially towards the end where there are some dramatic scenes.

It is about this man Bud Johnson(Costner), who is pretty much a drunk, lazy, stupid redneck who is a single parent after a messy divorce, and is living in a trailer in Texaco New Mexcico with his 12 year old daughter Molly. After Bud gets drunk at a bar one night after promising Molly he'd vote(Molly is a very political and liberalist character in the movie), Molly ends up trying to vote for him, however the electronic computer malfunctions, and then all of a sudden Bud's vote(which is really Molly's, but nobody now's that except for them) doesn't count.

All of a sudden Texaco, New Mexico is put on the map, and before you know it hundreds of media people are standing right outside Bud's door, the man who will essentially decide the next leader of the free world.

This is supposed to be a comedy, but honestly, I only really laughed once or twice, mainly because of the performance of Costner, he just played a stupid redneck so well.
I really wanted to like this movie more, but I just couldn't. It felt unbalanced, and very sloppily made. This movie had all the ingredients to be a great movie, and use all of the political satire that they could, but for some reason this movie just came off as being held back. With better writing/directing, this movie could have been waaaaaaaaaay better.

At the end of the day, this movie just couldn't find the right balance of political satire, and dramatic/heartwarming sentimental family moments.

This movie was way too fake with the whole voting thing and was pretty boring to boot.

Loved it! Maybe its because Costner plays his role so incredibly well, or maybe its because Madeline Carroll is terrific. I think its b/c the two of them remind me so much of my own upbringing (even more so with my sister). Although I have read some reviews claiming the movie isn't as funny as it was marketed, I disagree. So much of the funny was really based on the make believe button, so if you don't have one this movie isn't for you. Actually, if you don't have one what are you watching movies to begin with?!?
I am not a crier at movies but for how close the relationship of Molly and her parents reflected my own, it pulled something in me.

I am not sure if the movie accomplished its goal of getting people out to the vote but hopefully anyone who watched decided to become more aware of "the issues".

This was not a good movie. The premise is absolutely ridiculous and the political satire isn't clever at all. All the more disappointing is that I happen to like Kevin Costner, Kelsey Grammer, and Dennis Hopper. And besides, what would happen if he voted for a third party candidate?

In spite of a pretty darned good performance by Costner, the film is pretentious, overblown, unbelievable and just plain obvious.
Problems: Costner's charactor the "average Joe" (not the plummer) - an alchololic slacker has a daughter that is consciencious, overly brite and more mature than he is. Hmm, must be mom's genes? Nope, she leaves the family to persue a career as a country singer (so not a rocket scientist either).
I simply did not feel it was possible for the daughter to be who she was with the kind of parenting she had.

There are a few witty scenes lampooning the political process and how far we've all fallen in the media age (reminded me vaguely of "wag the dog"); where it becomes not about the issues but about who comes off better on tv.

Kelsey Grammer does a good job as the reigning president, a baffoon on the surface, but revealing a deeper, weary of the games, side that is poignant.

Dennis Hopper is wasted as the "opposition", and Stanley Tucci and Nathan Lane have not much room to operate as the opposing campaign managers.

That a couple of 12 year old kids can go driving around, even in a small town, is absurd - as is the entire premiss of the film.

When the film does finally take a detour into the darkness of humanity; having the daughter arrive on Mom's doorstep, only to find out that she is a drug addict and doesn't want her around - it takes one riviting scene and then backs out of the situation completly once Costner shows up. Sad - but even with a few more well thought out scenes like that one, the film is still a mess - trying to thrust the local hispanic reporter into the mix as a potential buddy/love interest, like so much of the film, is simply misguided.
