the best animated film of my childhood when i was fourteen years old. ten out of ten stars. one more thing, i don't care if the movie became a failure. well, the movie ended with Taran and his friends heading for home after giving the three witches the black cauldron, but, so what? shame on yourselves! Disney's great with animated films, and so is the black cauldron. well, i think i'm gonna stop now.

I always will love The Black Cauldron. I feel its misunderstood as it attempted to be different in its mature tone. The Horned King is a great villain. Evil to the end.

I dare you to read the book and like this film.

But don't read the Black Cauldron. No, that was the SECOND book. You must read "The Book of Three" the first book in the series, which they nearly completely ignore.

The Chronicles of Prydain are some of my favorite books. What we have here is complete travesty. Disney is notorious for screwing things up, but even Hercules had it's saving grace, and that was James Woods as Hades. This film's out of Hail Maries.

The film starts with a narration saying that an evil king was turned into a Black Cauldron with monstrous powers. Total bogus. The Black Cauldron was used by Arawn to make undead warriors. But Arawn isn't in this film.

Actually, I'll stop here. This film sucks. To any Alexander fans out there, avoid this film like the plague. It's for your own good.

This was the beginning of animation being seen as a big budget item, as it was filmed semi-digitally, had CGI, and finally had lightning effects that sounded better than Castle Thunder. However, as the books this movie got its inspiration from were the yang to the Narnia Chronicles' yin, this was also the start of watered-down Disney films. Suffering from having a third of its runtime cut, there are only two or three moments where character and plot actually developed. And one of them is a bard standing behind a bush, waiting for a princess to sew his pants.

This film is a work of brilliance in the eyes of Disney. It really brings out the darker side of Disney movies. I'm the kinda goy who likes scary movies, and this movie could be the closest to it while still being a kids movie. Medieval times never looked cooler in this movie.

This was the only animated film to give me nightmares as a child, mostly due to John Hurt's amazing job as the voice of the Horned King, and the color pallet. This is quite possibly Disney's darkest animated film, but there is so much here that why it isnt held in a higher regard is beyond me. The Horned King is quite possibly my favorite Disney villain, and this is still one of a few Disney animated films I watch in my 20's still. This is well worth showing your children...if there willing to have a few nightmares from a Disney film.

Most of the characters were there just to be there, but the movie is still a creepy, entertaining, and amazing adventure that is welcome in a Disney library.
