RIP BRITTANY MURPHY

Having enjoyed some time in Tokyo when i was younger this film provided a healthy dose of nostalgia. Despite it's embarrassing western viewpoint on what is actually a rich, beautiful culture it was an acceptable watch with some pleasant scenes. Nonetheless, the storyline is basic and predictable, the characters one-dimensional and the acting is dubious at times, but i didn't really expect anything else. It's Lost in Translation for the simple minded.

Not bad at all, heart-warming movie. It was typical, I think. I grew up watching japanese cartoons, there was one series so famous, it's about how this japanese boy loves foods so much. That everytime he tasted something delicious, he felt like he's in heaven. This movie has that same feeling. Japanese really honor their food, good foods come from the heart.

Actually enjoyed this movie, although it was pretty predictable. It seemed the standard Brittany Murphy nice girl fare.

The cover of this DVD does this movie an injustice. The geisha/kimono thing is just NOT what this movie is about. The Ramen Girl is a lovely, hilarious, sweet, hugely entertaining, charming little movie about finding oneself in an unexpected place. Brittany Murphy does an excellent job playing an adventurous lovelorn American girl who becomes abandoned in Tokyo by her boyfriend. And from there begins her beautiful journey, in which she becomes the hapless assistant to a tyrannical ramen master chef. After this movie, I have a new appreciation for the art of cooking ramen. And I am sorry Ms. Murphy is gone, for I very much enjoyed her performance and would've loved to have seen her in more stories. RIP, Ms. Murphy.

There are a lot of little laughs, a couple of big ones and pleanty of tears along the way. In the end, we get what we sort'a expected from the very beginning, but that's okay too. I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Why does this movie not have any professional reviews? Its definitely worth their while. I believe the movie will connect with many. It is a good and interesting expression of very human struggles. Struggles of the heart, struggles of the mind, struggles of the spirit. And it makes you hungry. My wife actually took a bite out of my shoulder and left an inhumanly large bite mark and soaked up the sleeve of my shirt like an English Bulldog as I was writing the review for this movie. Yes it is the picture of that little girl you see. Beware, looks can be deceiving...j/k she's an angel...i had to say that or she'll bite me again :x ...help....help. Besides that we really enjoyed this movie. Any who's anyone (which means anyone) should watch it.
Thank You!
Totally Recommended!

This turned out to be quite a charming, heartwarming, funny and uplifting tale about one womans true calling after her boyfriend leaves her in tokyo to pursue a job elsewhere. It's still very sad and shocking that Brittany Murphy is no longer with us but this movie proves that once again she was a fine and very charming and lovable actress that won't soon be forgotten. This movie will definitely make you hungry and crave ramen noodles and just make you in a very happy mood, very spirited movie! This movie shows that life can throw you curve balls but you should never lose touch with yourself and your soul and do everything with passion. I thought the supporting cast was a delight especially the ramen chef teacher he was hysterical! I'm surprised that this never got a theaterical release because I thought it was very appealing and a winner in my book, sure it's not the best movie ever and was pretty simplistic and nothing we haven't seen before but it's sunshine compared to most. Overall if you enjoy movies like Simply Irresistible or Chocolat ect. you'll like this movie. Recommended!!!

Terribly made, rocky, confusing, unstable, shitty acting, boring, not funny and unforgivable. There is no reason for you to watch this and I am puzzled as to why Brittany Murphy participated in this snooze of a film.

I love this movie! We all have to make a choice at some point in our lives about what we are going to do for a living, and what we are going to be. Most of us don't have to do it in a country where we do not know the language, and do not really understand the culture. Brittany Murphy shines as a girl who does.

Dumped in Japan by the boyfriend she followed, she drifts in a sometimes seedy, sometimes boringly corporate and usually confusing city. The local ramen restaurant owners do not know what to make of this hysterical woman who shows up babbling in a language they do not know.

Toshiyuki Nishida simply becomes the master ramen chef. It is easy to see why he was nominated for ten Japanese Academy Awards and won twice. His performance is seamless, nuanced, layered and completely brings the character into reality. At the end of this movie I felt like I knew this ramen chef.

The other actors are also wonderful. Kamiko Yo brings depth to what could have been a one-dimensional character. Tammy Blanchard gives an over the top performance as an ex-pat working girl. Sohee Park is the new love interest.

But this is not your typical formula romantic comedy, and that's what I love about it. It's a finding yourself in the most unlikely place, and finding your life's work where you would least expect it.

Did I mention, I really like this movie?
