An incredible throwback to 30's adventure movies that is executed brilliantly. It accomplishes everything it is meant to. A fun two hours.

A dazzling story brilliantly crafted from the mastermind of Dave Steven's, this film is able to pull off a stunning tale despite the graphic novel diversity. The film introduces not just a pulp hero classic but entrances the viewer with a setting that was quite to the likes of life during the 40's. Set in a time when America was getting back on her feet, the film depicts the rise of media popularity as well as early mob organizations. Though the film may not be fully accurate.

In addition the film features a wonderful soundtrack composed by James Horner who leads the audience through emotions of fear, excitement, to a sense of awe as the rocketman shoots through the sky.

The movie does have cons considering the cheesy effects and obvious stunt doubles. There are some parts where I was dissapointed in. For example, a more realistic rocket propulsion would have been more suitable for the jetpack rather than things going off like the 4th of July.

Overall the film features a basic plot that depicts the hero despiratly trying to hide his identity but wants acceptance from the love of his life.

This is a movie I have been very passionate about. And while some may beg to differ, The Rocketeer is truly a film that has really sparked my imagination and has really developed a passion for the concept of flying through the air, fighting nazis, and battling on top of a zeppelin.

In all honesty, very rarely has a pulp hero made an impact as The infamous rocketman did.

Dave Stevens crafted a brilliant obscure hero with a heart of gold and the will to fight.

This was a surprising great movie by Disney. It was hard to get this off the comic, but they did a decent job. Some scenes left me a bit weird, but overall it was nice. When he finally gets to fly, you actually feel like a kid again watching a hero.

Cute movie about a young man ( Bill Campbell) who find a suit with a jet pack on it hid. He tries it on. He doesn't know it belongs to Howard Hughes and the Nazi's are after it. This is a good movie taken from the comic book. I like the chemistry between the character. Bill Campbell (cousin of Bruce Campbell-Evil Dead) does a wonderful job as the Rocketeer.

Based on a successful graphic novel, The Rocketeer, directed by Joe Johnston, was and is an unappreciated, truly entertaining motion picture. With a snappy, stylish, adventurous premise, this high-flying film has endearing characters and action that are throwbacks to a simpler, more innocent age.

Set in the 1930s, with a looming Nazi threat, young pilot Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) finds himself in the possession of a powerful rocket pack, under mysterious circumstances. It so happens that a highly successful actor, Neville Sinclair (Timothy Dalton), is using the mob in his search for the experimental flight machine, and Cliff finds himself, and his girlfriend, Jenny (Jennifer Connely) in mortal danger. Why does Sinclair want the rocket pack, how did he discover its existence, and who built in the first place? You'll have to see it. The actors have good chemistry, and there is nice sexual tension between Jenny and Cliff.

Brilliant Americana, with a golden-age sensibility and a fantastic score by James Horner, don't miss it.

I always liked the Rocketeer. I had a chance to meet Dave Stevens the creator of the Rocketeer. A really nice guy and one hell of an artist. Dave passed away this year (2008) and left the legacy of this great character. The Rocketeer is set in 1930's Hollywood and perfectly casts Bill Campbell as Cliff Secord, aside from Christopher Reeve's Superman this is one of my favorite castings of all time, perfect!! A young Jennifer Conelly sweetly plays Jenny. In the comics Jenny is actually modeled after old school pin up girl Betty Page. So althogh the character changes, Conelly plays Jenny as sweet and likeable. I really liked Alan Arkins portrayal of Peevy however there are a few scenes where I'll admit to his acting is just borderline cheesy. Timothy Dalton and Paul Sorvino round out the main body of the cast as the two bad guys. Basically I wont tell the story or reveal anything about plot. Let me instead mention what is good. I like that the Rocketeer isnt overly violent, sexual or offensive in anyway. Its an enjoyable innocent film and I think if you get that, you'll like it. Its a disappearing genre of film I think to have a decent adventure film and still get only a PG rating. I have been a fan of this film since it came out. Its not perfect but it is a lot of fun.

Viggo is fucking crazy. Jim Sturgess is adorable. Billy Campbell was incredibly gorgeous. And I'd still pick Clooney over Krasinski any day.

With the majority of the must-see classics like Rear Window and Singin' in the Rain crossed off the list when it comes to educating the boyfriend in the area of cinema, (though there are still a couple to see...*cough*Casablanca*cough*) I am diving into more of my personal favorites...

"They don't advertise for killers in the newspaper"
Blade Runner 8/10

Brilliantly costumed (fedoras all the way!) along with outstanding sets and props, The Rocketeer really brings the late 1930s to life. While the acting my not be spot on, and some of the effects are slightly cheesy, The Rocketeer is fun and entertaining all the way.

As for the rest of the weekend...the bookstore didn't have their course book section set up yet, so I went to the used bookstore a block away and purchased my books for my History and Development of Feminist Threory class. $51.15 for one book, and $2.50 for another--it's a novel: The Handmaid's Tale. Anyone read it? I then proceeded to spend $52.00 at TJ Maxx on two pairs of jeans and a pair of classic black pumps. They are so Bettie! Anyhow...Patrick signed his apartment papers yesterday, and is set to move in on the tenth of September.

In other news...GINGERS ARE GOING TO DIE OUT BY 2100!!! *cries* Okay, if you are a ginger kid, GET WITH ANOTHER GINGER KID AND MAKE GINGER BABIES! Well, not until you're ready of course! Seriously, gingers, it's time we breed only within our own natural hair color or else we will cease to exist! *cries*

Okay, seriously...people who want to be my friend: Is there something incredibly difficult about commenting before asking me to be my friend? At least then I know you will have something to say to me. From this point on I will not accept new friends unless a comment is made. Let omelette be an example to all you people! He even said how he came across my journal

I'm off to go pack and get ready to head back to Portland.
