I am so sorry, but this was possibly the woorst film that I have ever had the disfortune of havig to watch!

Shia LeBeouf was dreadful along side the poor acting of Megan Fox. The transformers' animation was a glimer of loght in whta was almost certainly a pit of dark awfulness!

Out of 10? I'd give it a 2!

Transformers may be the critics' favorite Hated Movie of 2007. It was directed by Michael Bay, has giant robots, explosions and relies on special effects. It also grossed plenty of dollars at the box office, which means a sequel would come out (And a sequel indeed came out). At the same time, this is supposed to be that summer blockbuster in which we all have a great time, right? Plus, Mr. Spielberg produced it, so how's the result?

I won't waste time on the premise. We all know that the only reason you watch this film is to watch giant robots blowing shit up. That's okay. That's the reason I watched it too. However, as some critics noted, the robots don't get the full focus they needed. Yes, Optimus Prime is here, and there are cool transformation scenes which made me want to press rewind and watch them in slow motion. Somehow, though, most of the action focuses on the human. That's like how in Death Proof the focus is not on cars but on women talking about bullshit. It doesn't sink as low as Death Proof though, mainly because there is action, and the robots do get a good amount of screen time to blow stuff up.

Speaking of the action scenes, they're a little disappointing. They're full of explosions, people running around, and cars flying over your head. Yet they can't be as engaging as they want to be. There are plenty of stylish shots, too, but the desired effect isn't achieved. They're not bad action scenes, where there's plenty of mayhem going on you can't care about, they simply won't rank among the genre's best. I do have to mention that there's a brief car chase which almost bordered on Mad Max quality, and combined with the instrumental of The Used's "Pretty Handsome Awkward" it was one of the better scenes of the film.

As for the special effect and visuals, they're as good as people said they are. I do have gripes with the design of the robots, since they're full of tiny parts their exact look is hard to comprehend. Still, they do look great, and the transformation scenes are great and the whole film is just great to look at. The whole film has this big-budget, polished feel which I do like. There's really not much to say about visuals other than fans of special effect will enjoy this. This is not just high-quality CGI -- The set pieces are great too. The Matrix doesn't feel outdated, this probably won't too.

The characters aren't anything special, and so are the performances. A notable exception is Shia LeBouf, who's the lead actor and does a good job with his character. The soundtrack is also pretty good, opting mainly for epic orchestral scores that somehow syncs with the film. However, when it occasionally slips into modern Hard Rock/Nu-Metal, that's where the fun starts. The action scenes would've probably been better if more Rock was used, and the orchestra was thrown out the window.

So Transformers doesn't become more than a good special effect meal and some decent action scenes. It is hindered a bit by its length. This kind of film doesn't need to be two hours and a half. Obviously, anyone who isn't interested in explosions is in for a torture. Those with a taste for action should enjoy this, but it still doesn't rank up high enough. I heard the sequel contains more focus on the robots, which sounds like a good thing to me.

Highs: Special effects, visuals, the occasional use of Rock music
Lows: Action scenes could've been done better, too long

Transformers in a real live action movie WHOOOPPEEE.

Since seeing the first trailer for this movie I was very excited and a wee bit scared. The prospect of giant robots waging war being given the Michael Bay treatment was mouth watering. The fear came from hoping that not too much time would be spent on back story and the movie would get straight to the action.

My hope was realised. None of the meaningless history that ruined the first Hulk film was present here. Moving directly to amazing giant robots fighting each other was the order of the day. The animation of these robotic figures was breathtaking and the amount of screen time dedicated to those transformations and fight scenes was exactly what this movie needed.

There was a geeky kid blah blah and for some reason a really good looking girl got involved. Stereotyped Sector 7 government secret agency was caretaker to Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons (the bad guys)who was frozen......blah blah blah Optimus Prime leads the Autobots (good guys) who after a planetary war....blah blah blah

The soundtrack was loud, damn loud, every explosion pierced the ears like a hot icepick, the pounding heavy metal background music was relentless, the dialogue was virtually impossible to separate from all the noise (sit at the front of the auditorium if you actually want to hear the words but you wont miss much if you dont), full and liberal use of every one of the 360 degrees in the sound stage ensured an impressive overall effect and every silence was inserted just to allow air to fill your lungs before the next explosion percussion knocked the air back out again.

Settle down for a couple of hours of non stop movie mayhem in a family orientated way. Remove brain then engage fun mode for the duration of the movie.

Brilliant

In 2003, it was over an hour until we saw The Hulk in Hulk. But at least there was set-up. There is over an hour of nothing but two uninteresting, bland and badly written teenagers banging on about stuff i don't care about. Thats right, over an hour of nothing but a love story. Where are the Transformers? While the film does get better when they arrive, they are still reading off the same poor script as everyone else. The love story is badly done. The jokes are abysmal, there is racism and there are plot holes. But the last 30 minutes are actually pretty good. That saves this movie...but only just.

I think the movie is good; far better than the second movie. The visuals were great when the robots transformed and Labeouf's acting is pretty good. Although I expected a bit more from my favorite cartoon. It is watchable though so go ahead and watch because it is good.
