Well... Not bad. Started well, but gradually disappeared up it's own backside. Some shoddy acting, and the choice of music struck me as odd, a lot of classic 60's music, which is great but came across as strange in the context of the movie.

Owes a lot to Batman and Sin City.

Overall it was ok./

Fantasitc film. A grim take on the super hero phenomenon. These charecters stuggle with there very humanity from The Comedian who views life as a big joke to Rorschach who is extremely bitter regarding society to Dr.Manhattan and Adrian who see them selves as superior to human life. The dialouge between Dr.Manhattan and the silk spectre on mars is a good example. He asks how the planet would be improved with shopping malls and pipe lines, again a very grim outlook on man. This is a very philosophical and mind altering movie. Much much more than your average beat up baddies super hero movie. A gripping, bleak story combined with great acting and a great soundtrack make this film incredible. One of the most apealing aspects is how raw and realistic the movie is there is no candy coated childrens ending. The story is just as dark as the heroes themselves and leaves intelectuals pondering there very existance.

I am very grateful to have chosen this film as my first midnight show; I don't regret it in the least. You felt the fandom for the graphic novel just by being in contact with the people that showed up.
Not the best comic book adaption, but it works well with what it's got. I think it accomplished everything it could with the source material; Watchmen is in the least a very difficult book, and I praise Zack Snyder for even attempting to bring it to the big screen and to audiences.
Visually appealing and stays true, for the most part, to the source material. The best and truest reincarnation is the Dr Manhattan flashback scenes; those were executed flawlessy. The intro to Watchmen is also, in my opinion, one of the best.

This one of these movies that is hard to watch because of the viloence and the blue guys dick. I was surprised it was a 3 hour long movie. It just seemed like a 2 hour movie. I do not recommend real critics to see it you will hate it. But if you just want to watch it for the story. Go with it then.

One of the best graphic novel adaptations with a great soundtrack and a decent cast for the major part. The best part; it's impossible to make a sequel...is it?

I never read the comic, so the reason I love this movie has nothing to do with that. It was an amazing work with so much fantastic satire and witty philosophy that it seemed impossible for me not to love. Like 1984 with superheroes. If you're mature and patient enough to sit through a 2 1/2 hour movie with an occasional blue penis, then I'd definitely recommend this movie. Just because it's not the usual superhero beat'em up that most expect doesn't make it a bad film in the least. In fact, it was damn exceptional!

Ian's Journal: January 3rd, 2009.
Getting psyched for Watchmen movie. Finished reading the book today. It was better than excellent. Got confused in some parts, but will reread it soon. A perfect way to end my trip to San Diego.

Watchmen movie is starting to frighten me. Preview says it is from "visionary director of 300". Visionary? I think Zack Snyder is great, but 300 was mostly a frame to screen remake. Also reread book; makes more sense now.

Watchmen released today. Getting concerned for it. It is getting highly mixed reviews. IGN AU gives it a 3 out of 10. IGN UK gives it a 10. I don't know what to think. I won't see it until tomorrow.

Went to see Watchmen today with ben m. First impression: Left bad taste in mouth. Its over violent nature ultimately harms it in the end. Despite its length, it moves along nicely and doesn't feel like 3 hours. Jackie Earle Haley gives stellar performance. Still, too violent, lacking story elements. I will continue to ponder the matter.

Over a month has passed since last I saw Watchmen. There is some nagging pull about it that makes me feel as if I had missed something. I reread the book.

The more I think, the more I think how I kind of actually liked Watchmen. It is detail rich and rewards reading the book. I now want the blu-ray when it comes out in July.

July 30, 2009
I have Watchmen Director's Cut on blu-ray. I now see what I have not seen before. True, there is more detail than I have seen before, and Haley's performance is better than I remember. The pop culture references are great. Also some of the best opening credits ever.

Final entry? It seems uncertain. My entries are becoming less often, and the end seems nigh. I rewatch Watchmen. I love the soundtrack. I hate the acting. I almost cry with Haley.

I read the Alan Moore's comic book, so I knew that this movie could be disappointing, and it is, but at least not as I thought it could be, mostly because of it's style and good acting.

Alan Moore wrote a masterpiece that everybody recognizes that it's one of the best comic books ever written, so with such a great story, it's hard to spoil it completely. Like in "300" (Snyder's last work), that everybody said was visionary, for me, it wasn't at all, every single thing in it is taken from the book, every room, or even paintings on
the wall, so how can you say the director is visionary?. But I can't deny that Snyder's direction is very stylish, despite those problems, the fighting sequences are great, with an admirable sense of showing the pain of punches, and kicks.

The adapted screenplay, I think, is the most compromising element of the movie, the fantastic idea of Ozymandias (For me, the most important thing in the graphic novel), is changed, taking of the effectiveness and intelligence of his plan, which is unacceptable for a story that is only striking because of it's ending .

Verdict: If you haven't read the graphic novel, you'll have the problem that it will be hard for you to understand the big purpose, but at least you'll not have to know that they ruined a masterpiece of comic books.

It's not as good as the graphic novel but it just might be the best you can do with it.
