Box office results

While its budget was estimated at $ 21 million, the film generated operating revenue on the US territory, $ 10 million, less than half of the investment. With The Day of the End of the World , The Last Secret of Poseidon and Airport 80 Concorde , this title is one of the big commercial failures that ended the vein “disaster” of the 1970s.

Around the film

Of a cinema duration not exceeding two hours, the film counted at the beginning of copious sequences of dialogues, judged quite harmful to the narrative rhythm to be cut. Succeeding the exploitation in videocassettes conforming to its cinema version, a DVD edition of the beginning of the years 2000 integrated the said scenes with the film, which thus reached the duration of 156 minutes. Despite the misleading mention of a French audio track, the same DVD offered none, the new sequences having never been dubbed.

The enthusiasm of farmers to the topic of killer bees (we counted no less than four films in the late 1970s: The Bees of Alfredo Zacarias , when bees attack of Bruce Geller , Terror in the sky of Lee H. Katzin and the Inevitable Catastrophe) has its origin in the predictions of some scientific experts, foreseeing the dangerous migration of these insects towards the North American territories. Nevertheless the predictions proved erroneous and the films, of notorious failures.
