Around the film

The film was shot in France in Fontainebleau , at Vaux-le-Vicomte , in the Old Mans and the home of Fontenay in Fontenay-sur-Vègre . Some scenes representing the Louvre Palace were shot at the studios of Arpajon .

D’Artagnan is presented in the film as having been the lover of Anne of Austria , which is not the case in Le Vicomte de Bragelonne and the previous works of Dumas.

King Louis has Raoul assassinated in order to obtain de facto his fiancée, Christine. For this, he sends him to death among the first lines on the English front. He then install Christine in his apartments. This plot is undoubtedly inspired by the Second Book of Samuel . Indeed, in chapter 11, King David is seduced by a woman named Bathsheba, which he gets by sending her husband Uriah to death. The final outcome is however not the same.
